Sometimes, Lessons Come With A Smack In The Face

Quite often I do my very best thinking while I am doing my evening walk. During these excursions I have the chance to review the experiences of the day, reflect on the book I am currently reading, listen to inspirational audio recordings and have some uninterrupted quiet time to myself. Frequently it is during this nightly ritual when I receive flashes of learning and understanding. I never know when or from where these inspirational times will hit. On one of my recent walks I had such an occurrence.

What Is Your Normal?

Several years ago I attended a seminar at which one speaker's presentation completely changed the way I thought about my life. The speaker's actual topic eludes me but what struck me was a sidebar comment she made about the concept of "normal". She asked the audience members if they had ever looked, with envy, at someone else's lifestyle and wondered "why THEM and not ME?" The presenter then went on to question whether the lifestyle we envied felt "normal" to the person living it and if, perhaps, that individual might also look upon another's life with that same question. This got me wondering whether or not I could change my normal.
